US President Donald Trump has announced that CNN, MS NOW and Politico are being banned from the White House, marking a fresh escalation in his strained relationship with sections of the American media.

Trump disclosed the decision on Truth Social on Friday, accusing the three news organisations of repeatedly publishing what he described as false information about his administration and the United States.

He did not identify any particular report that prompted the action but suggested that additional media organisations could face similar restrictions.

The extent of the ban and how it would be enforced were not immediately clear. Reporters from CNN, MS NOW and Politico were still on the White House grounds shortly after Trump made the announcement.

The decision could also draw legal scrutiny over press access and constitutional protections afforded to news organisations.

Trump has repeatedly clashed with journalists and media outlets since returning to the White House in January 2025.

His administration previously changed longstanding arrangements governing presidential press access, including assuming greater control over the White House press pool, which had traditionally been managed by the White House Correspondents’ Association.

Trump’s latest announcement adds another dimension to that dispute, although questions remain over what restrictions the three organisations and their journalists will ultimately face.
