The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division Nigeria Army Headquarters, Kaduna, Major General Adeniyi Oyebade, has attributed his division’s emergence as the overall champions of the just- concluded Nigerian Army Games to “learning, preparation, motivation and true team work.”
Speaking shortly after hosting the victorious athletes to a sumptuous reception, Oyebade told sport writers that the talents discovered would form a talent pool for the nation.
Recall that the 1 Division emerged champions of the 2016 edition of the games with 45 gold medals, 32 silver medals and 41 bronze medals dusting the Army headquarters, 81 division Lagos, 2 Division Ibadan and 82 division Enugu who came 2nd,3rd,4th and 5th respectively.
“I have gathered the athletes here today in a reception just to appreciate their efforts, commend them, dine and wine together in celebration of our victory.
“I am optimistic that the talents discovered from the games will, in the future, become an asset to the nation and will do the nation proud in international sporting competitions.
“Now that we are through with the games, we are going back to what we know how to do best; that is, providing security and keeping Nigeria safe.”
