The Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, Mr Mohammed Abdulkadir, has confirmed the killing of two mobile policemen by suspected armed robbers at a filling station in Sokoto on Monday.
Abdulkadir told newsmen that the incident happened at the NNPC Mega Station, Gusua road, Sokoto.
”The two deceased policemen were on duty when the hoodlums struck at the filling station at around 2 a.m, Monday.
”The suspected armed robbers came in a vehicle, overpowered the policemen, shot and killed them.
”They made a futile attempt to open the safe of the filling station sequel to a resistance by the deceased officers,” said the police commissioner.
Abdulkadir said that the hoodlums, who were armed to the teeth, had targeted the sales of last Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
”We will disclose the identities of the killed policemen after duly informing their various families.
”Their remains had been deposited at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto,” he added.
The police commissioner also confirmed the killing of a middle-aged man by some unknown assailants in the city.
Abdulkadir said that the headless body of the deceased was found neatly packaged in a sack and dumped in a refuse dump along Maituta Road, Sokoto.
”The remains of the deceased had also been deposited at the morgue of the same hospital.
”No arrests were made regarding the killings, but we have swung into action to apprehend the fleeing hoodlums and bring them to book,” Abdulkadir said. (NAN)
