The Chief of Defence Staff, (CDS) General Gabriel Olorunshakin has said the war on terror is in its final stage adding that Boko Haram is almost gone and that what the nation is witnessing now is nothing to reckon with.
The CDS who was represented by the Ag. Director of Defence Information, Col Rabe Abubakar stated this when him and members of his team paid courtesy call to the management of Leadership Newspaper.
He said the military and media are like twins who ought to come together in times of crisis as it is witnessed in Nigeria today. He said military operations cannot be successful without having a vibrant media support.
The CDS called for more enhanced collaboration and synergy between the military on one hand and the other media urging the media to play its mitigating role to the best it can.
Olorunshakin expressed regrets that several lives have been lost in the war against insurgency saying that terrorism by nature relies on information to thrive. He said to counter insurgency, there must be formidable relationship between the media.
In his response, the Group Managing Director (GMD) , LEADERSHIP, Dr. Cletus Akwaya said, the LEADERSHIP team came out in this number to welcome the Defence delegation because of the respect the organization has for the Military institution.
Mr. Akwaya said, the military institution deserve the respect of all because of their role in the maintenance of the nation’s territorial integrity.
He stressed further that, LEADERSHIP as an organization, deeply appreciate the role of the military, and that is why the organization is very excited at the visit of the Defence team.
Throwing more light on the scope and coverage of LEADERSHIP’s operations, Mr. Akwaya said, LEADERSHIP has offices with correspondents representing us in all the state capitals of the federation.
“Since you are the Director of Defence Information, and the military has formations across the country, LEADERSHIP is with you all the way. Whatever you do, that requires the public to know, LEADERSHIP is ever ready to render support, the best way, it can.
Mr. Akwaya seized the occasion to introduce the various platform in LEADERSHIP’s staple, which span the daily title; Friday title, the first of its kind in the country; LEADERSHIP Weekend and Sunday.
According to Mr. Akwaya, the LEADERSHIP Hausa titles is surprisingly recording 100 percent turnover in the south. Also, to meet the perculiar communication needs of government Ministries, Agencies and Parastatal, the Group recently introduced; LEADERSHIP MDAs.
The GMD informed his visitors that, another platform on LEADERSHIP staple; leadership.ng was only last week rated the sixth most active newspaper website in Nigeria.
He said, LEADERSHIP’s commitment to the fair coverage of the ongoing war on terror was driven by patriotism and in line with the organization’s motto, which is for God and for country.
He urged the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier Gen Abubakar,to convey the assurances of cooperation of the LEADERSHIP Group to the chief of Defence staff.
Highlight of the occasion was the taking of group photographs by both team and presentation of copies of various titles on LEADERSHIP platform.
