The Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Cross River State, on Wednesday advised illegal miners to steer clear of the state, warning that anyone caught will be dealt with, accordingly.
NSCDC’s Commandant in the state, Mr. Clement Adesuyi, gave the warning while briefing newsmen on the achievements of his command, in Calabar.
While reaffirming the command’s resolve to effectively protect public infrastructures, he said no stone will be left unturned to apprehend illegal miners where ever they operate within the state.
Adesuyi disclosed that within the period under review, the command had arrested 20 suspects; comprising vandals, one chance syndicates, and kidnappers.
He explained that so far, 10 suspects had been charged to court, assuring that the command will not relent in its effort towards checkmating the activities of vandals & other criminals in the state.
Adesuyi said the command will continue to partner other security agencies to tackle crime in the state, adding that “Anybody caught in the act of illegal mining will be apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law.”
He attributed the low rate of vandalism in the state recently to the command’s zero tolerance for vandalism and other social vices.
