Abia State governorship aspirant in the 2015 general election, Dr Uche Ogah has clarified that contrary to media reports, there was never a time he was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Ogah, in a statement, explained that he is not being held for any criminal charge.
According to him, as a law abiding citizen, he went to the court on Monday in connection with the case between Mutass Ltd and Masters Energy Oil & Gas Limited and the court in its wisdom struck out the case against him on the ground that the charges against him were preferred hastily and without evidence.
“As Dr. Ogah was leaving the court premises, he was invited by the EFCC for a very brief chat on the issue which he agreed, thereafter he immediately was allowed to go. The reports in the media of his purported arrest are totally misleading, mischievous and designed to smear his image and to distract and scuttle the political goals of Uche Ogah. He will remain unflinching in the pursuit of those goals.
“For the avoidance of any doubt, Ogah was not arrested. Ogah is a firm believer in the judiciary, and that explains why he decided to attend the court session,” he said.
Ogah further stated that he does not have a case that will warrant his being arrested by the EFCC and that he has never been invited by the EFCC or any other security organ of the government for any crime or criminal activity. He added that if there is anything, his brief interface with the EFCC vindicated him.
“We want to re-assure the public that there is nothing to fear as Dr. Ogah has not committed any crime against the land. We also want to urge Dr. Ogah’s teeming supporters to please discountenance the rumour of his purported arrest,” the statement reads
