Police Parade 12 Criminals In Uyo

Police in Akwa Ibom has stated that it will have zero tolerance for criminals during the ember period in the state warning that no form of criminality would be condoled or tolerated in the state.

Giving the warning, yesterday, while parading 12 suspected criminals arrested for kidnapping, armed robbers, theft, rape and cultism in Uyo, the State Commissioner of Police, Murtala Mani said any criminal caught will face the full weight of the law.

Mani who spoke through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Command, Cordelia Nwawe disclosed that two young-men who specialize in removing of solar energy batteries on the streets of the state have been arrested.

Again, he said a young man who collected his friend vehicle to drive but latter sold it to a buyer in Benue State has been arrested with the buyer.

The State Police Boss said a young man Ibanga Solomon from Ini Local Government area alleged to have threatened to kidnap the Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Dr Glory Edet has been arrested.

Also, two persons who alleged involved in the kidnap of a hotel owner in Abak local government area of the state were among those arrested and paraded.

He said one of the persons linked to the kidnap of the hotel owner was traced to Rivers State and arrested at the point of going to withdraw money paid to his account as ransom.

The Police Commissioner cautioned those without legitimate duty in the state or with criminal intention to stay away saying security operatives will continue to be proactive in the discharge of their duties.

“There is no room for people who carry illegal arms to commit any form of criminality. The anti-kidnapping section, Special Anti-robbery squad (SARS) has all been well briefed on the task of riding the state of crime”, Mani stated.

The Police Commissioner urged members of the Public to provide the police with useful information on the movement and hideout of criminals around the state saying that identity of such informants would always be protected and information treated in confidence.

Speaking with Thisday, Elijah Fidelis aged 23 from Ukanafun alleged to have kidnapped the hotel owner in Abak local government area of the state denied committing the crime.
