The President, Miners Association of Nigeria (MAN), Alhaji Sani Shehu has called on the federal government to focus on developing the industrial minerals of Nigeria,  as it has the capacity to generate forex.

Alhaji Shehu said that the “focus will create jobs for Nigeria’s teeming youths and will be a window to generate revenue and forex for the government.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Leadership at the Associations Annual General Meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, October 5,2016 said ” I will aspire to see that the mining of high valued minerals is encouraged because it has the capacity to generate forex.

“Industrial minerals discourage using our forex to buy what we already have,  minig will bring  an ncrease in forex generation and by so doing mining contribute greater to the GDP as opposed to the embarrassing 0.03%, I mean it’s so embarrassing” he said

Alhaji Shehu who spoke on his vision for the development of the mining sector said”My vision is for us to use what we have to get what we want. Focus on the industrial minerals let it be that before our tenure ends, the volume of raw materials being imported is reduced significantly and it’s production is increased significantly.

That will create jobs to our citizens,it will give income to government and will develop the mining sector,” he said.
