Former Commander, Nigerian Army Supply and Transport Corps, Maj. Gen. Emmanuel Nienge (rtd) on Sunday called on the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari to declare state of emergency on the economy as part of measures to address the challenges Nigerians are passing through.

Speaking with journalists at a thanksgiving service in honour of Col. J.T Aun’s son, Sub -Lieutenant Aungwa Aun who received presidential
commissioning into Nigerian Navy in Kaduna Saturday, General Nienge also commended President Buhari’s war against corruption saying it must go on to salvage the nation.

Nienge who expressed optimism that Nigerians will overcome the present economic hardship however urged that the nation’s economic team should adopt emergency strategies to tackle the present economic recession.

According to Gen.Nienge, “The federal government should take emergency steps to tackle emergency problem at hand,we need to adopt such
tactics to confront the economic recession. Nigerians are suffering but so good, our President is working day and night to overcome this
challenge. Nigerians should give him supports to revamp the economy. You heard some people complaining about the present anti corruption fight, but to me President Buhari is doing to end
corruption. People arrested over corruption have not proved that they are innocent”.

Earlier in his sermon, minister in charge of Universal Reformed Christian Church,URCC,popularly known as NKST,Kaduna, Chris Annger, advised state governors to stop buying caskets and goats for
the people but they should embark on people’s oriented projects that would alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians.

Pastor Annger urged Nigerians to fast and pray to God for intervention stressing that President Buhari should gather men and women of high integrity and competency to fix economic challenges confronting the nation.
