Abuja Residents Raise The Alarm Over Flood

Residents of Aswani Street, Wuse, Zone 3, have raised the alarm over flood which is threatening their homes, businesses and other belongings.

Residents of the area who spoke to Leadership Friday, disclosed that the flood was as a result of the construction activities of a company which has embarked on the massive development of plots meant to be a flood plain that would naturally offload water from the zone.

“Unfortunately, it has got worse. It is even worrisome that a particular Peka Park and Garden has sand-filled and constructed embankments against the flood plain, blocking out against the entire drainages in the area,” a resident in the area, Thomas Otu, said.

LEADERSHIP Friday understands that when the present governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasri El-Rufai, was FCT Minister, in 2004, he revoked all allocation to plot 2429 of the areahe, considering that most houses in the area were constructed along the water channel.

“With el-Rufai out,” said another resident, Boluwatife Moses, “some people converted one of the plots to a playground for children,a park and an event centre, blocking off the flood plain, and the access road,” he said.
