Foremost Northern Politician, Lili Gabari, Dies At 80

One of the founding members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a pioneer member of the defunct Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), Alhaji Lili Gabari,  is dead.

Late Alhaji Gabari died in the early hours of Sunday at Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, Kano, after a protracted illness.

His funeral prayer held at his locality of Kabuwaya quarters, Bakin Zuwo, Jakara and Gabari area in Dala local government area in metropolitan, Kano.

The deceased was a foremost politician  who endured a lot of hardship for the emancipation of the common man which his party, the PRP,  stood for at the time of monarchical tyranny and oppression of the poor (Talakawas).

He served several prison terms for his stance for the freedom of ‘Talakwas’ in the hands of the traditional title holders (Sarki).

The late Gabari was among the very few politicians in the First and Second Republic who played a great role in  the development of the current democratic dispensation.
